Catherine Sims Kuiper is a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in Political Science, specializing in Political Theory and Constitutional Studies. Her dissertation is a study of John Locke and Spanish Jesuit Francisco Suarez as rival political philosophers of the Early Modern period, both expressing different continuities and ruptures with previous traditions of philosophical inquiry. Her research interests also include the Spanish tradition of Political Thought, especially its connection to human rights and political resistance.

Catherine has served as a TA at Notre Dame for three semesters. Her teaching experience includes introductory courses in Political Theory, upper-level courses in American Political Thought, as well intensive tutoring in writing and languages. She is particularly interested in exploring diverse forms of classroom participation as well as helping graduate students learn the basics of class structure and syllabus planning.
