Early Semester Evaluations

Early feedback from students gives instructors a sense of the extent to which the learning goals are being achieved. Such feedback is useful because it allows for timely adjustments and can thus improve teaching. Gathering and responding to student feedback can also improve the classroom environment because it demonstrates the instructors concern for student learning. Instructors may gather student feedback on the course in a number of ways:

  • instructor-designed forms
  • the one-minute paper
  • various strategies using student focus groups
