Active Learning That Benefits Faculty and Students

Description:

Once we’ve agreed that sometimes academics find themselves teaching beyond what they know best, we can ask two obvious questions: 1) how does one make those unfamiliar topics engaging for students? and 2) can I do those things in my courses? This interactive workshop provides an opportunity to apply key concepts to your own teaching. We will explore some manageable active learning techniques that can be easily adapted to a variety of courses and topics.

Learning Goals:

After successfully completing this workshop you will be able to:

  • recast one’s role in the classroom.
  • articulate why debate can be a useful teaching method.
  • identify four active learning techniques that are easy to transfer.
