This workshop focuses on using chalkboards (and whiteboards) effectively to promote student learning in the classroom. The workshop will address the benefits and appropriate use of chalkboards in lecture and discussion settings. It will also discuss effective hybrid uses of instructional technology and chalkboards.

Learning Goals:

After successfully completing this workshop you will be able to:

  • know and have practiced the fundamental DOs and DON'Ts of chalk-/white-board use.
  • effectively model note taking for students.
  • effectively combine instructional technology with boardwork. 
  • evaluate a classroom's potential for effective boardwork versus technology use.
