Meaningful Teaching Experiences: Partnering with the Community

Description:

Graduate students interested in teaching and in getting involved in the larger South Bend community may not know they can combine both by volunteer teaching at South Bend's Center for the Homeless (CFH).  This workshop reflects the collaboration between the Kaneb Center, Center for Social Concerns, and CFH to further develop a culture of volunteer teaching by Notre Dame graduate students.  Presenters include Laura Kinnaman (Physics), Carrie Miller (Chemistry), Andrea Nemeth (CFH), Amanda McKendree (Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning), and Connie Mick (Center for Social Concerns)

Learning Goals:

After successfully completing this workshop you will be able to:

  • articulate the need for teachers in the community.
  • generate ideas for applying your own abilities for the good of the community.
