Teaching Well Using Technology
Certification Program

The Kaneb Center is excited to offer an innovative new certification program. Our Teaching Well Using Technology program for graduate students provides both knowledgeable guidance on the effective introduction of technology in the classroom and the practical skills necessary for using technological tools such as WebCT. Those seeking certification must:

  1. Attend the one-day technology workshop in the Fall (or comparable workshop at ND or elsewhere)
  2. Attend at least two pedagogy workshops in the Teaching Well Using Technology series (these are the non-OIT workshops)
  3. Attend at least one OIT workshop in the Teaching Well Using Technology series (or any OIT workshop in the CEP - Computer Education Program) - all OIT workshops have a $30 no-show fee.
  4. Complete a limited project that incorporates a technology into your learning. You are encouraged to implement this project into an active class, either your own or one in which you are a T.A. If you are not teaching your own course, you can still work on a project such as a series of PowerPoint presentations for a proposed class, or a teaching tool specific to your discipline (e.g., a web-based flashcard activity for an art history or a language class). Before you begin your project, you need to submit a brief (200 words) description of the project, what technology or technologies will be used and how this implementation relates to the course goals. At the completion of the project, you will submit a final report (500 words) summarizing your project, restating how you used technology to attain the course goals and whether the learning goals were met.

Please note that the OIT workshops will not count for credit in the Striving for Excellence in Teaching certification program. The one-day workshop and the workshops on using technology in pedagogy can count for either program, but not for both. These workshops are not credit-bearing.

Teaching Well Using Technology certificate requirements can be completed over multiple semesters.

Graduate students who are not seeking certification are very welcome to attend any workshop.
