Dan facilitates learning outcomes assessment practices and planning for courses and programs. Additionally, he works with faculty to address assessment needs related to educational outreach components of grant-funded research activities.
From 2012-2014, through the Office of the Provost, Dan directed the University's reaffirmation of accreditation process culminating in the editing and publication of Notre Dame's comprehensive self-study for the Higher Learning Commission. He continues to serve as the institutional steward of assessment and accreditation information and data for HLC purposes and serves as Notre Dame's primary contact for accreditation questions and information needed by/from the HLC. In 2017-18 Dan also coordinated the University's HLC Year 4 Assurance Review report drafting and filing. He also serves on HLC external review teams.
Prior to completing the accreditation self-study, Dan coordinated activities for the Rooney Center for the Study of American Democracy. He also organized the Science of Generosity's Templeton Foundation-funded $5M RFP program, an international funding competition designed to stimulate scientific research on generosity. Prior to Notre Dame, Dan (BS, Range and Wildlands Science; Secondary Teaching Credential, MS and Ph.D. Agricultural Science Education) was on faculty at Utah State University and the University of Texas Health Center, Tyler, as a teacher educator and research assistant professor, respectively, with a primary area of research interest in methods to improve health and safety practices in rural and farm communities through educational programming.
