Evaluation Strategies
Evaluating student work serves the dual purpose of informing the instructor and students of the class’s progress toward achieving the learning goals and providing an opportunity for constructive feedback to further that progress. To best fulfill this purpose, each examination, quiz, assignment, or other assessment should be based on clearly fomulated criteria that are consonant with the learning goals for the course. Clear communication of assessment criteria to students will increase reliability of the assessment and improve student performance. Points to consider when formulating assessment criteria include:
- Description of the assignment to be completed
- Articulation of levels of performance
- The skills and knowledge required at each level
