Patrick J. Clauss


University Writing Program

Patrick Clauss is Professor of the Practice in the University Writing Program, where he also serves as the Director of Writing and Rhetoric. He joined the Notre Dame faculty in 2008, after directing the writing center at Butler University for eight years. He is the author of iClaim: Visualizing Argument, and his research interests include argumentation theory, informal logic, and composition theory and pedagogy. 

Patrick teaches Multimedia Writing and Rhetoric and a graduate practicum on the teaching of writing. He also mentors graduate students and new teachers of writing in the University Writing Program. He has recently worked with the College Board, serving as a consultant regarding AP examinations and high school and college language arts curricula. In the spring of 2014, Patrick was named a recipient of the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C. Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
