Francisco de Asís Martínez-Jerez (Asís)

Asís joined the University of Notre Dame in July 2013 after spending almost 20 years at Harvard Business School. He is currently on leave from Notre Dame and teaching at the Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration in the SC Johnson College of Business. Asís teaches managerial accounting to undergraduates and has taught managerial accounting and strategic control to undergraduates and MBA candidates at the Mendoza College of Business. Prior to joining Notre Dame, he taught MBA and Executive Education courses on control, strategy implementation, and corporate governance at HBS for twelve years.

A native of Alicante, Spain, Asís earned his undergraduate degrees in Law and Business Administration at ICADE-Madrid, his MBA from Harvard Business School, and his PhD from Harvard University. In his research and consulting activities, Asís focuses on issues related to corporate governance and strategy implementation, as well as performance measurement, incentives and control systems to implement customer-centric strategies. In 2005, Asís received the HBS-MBA Class Award for Teaching Excellence—selected by student vote—, and, in 2010, the Jim Bulloch Award for Innovation in Management Accounting Education in 2010. At the Mendoza College of Business, Asís received the Joe & Gina Prochaska Family Teaching Award (2017), voted on by the Mendoza class for outstanding achievement in preparing students to be leaders in the field of business, the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2019), and the James Dincolo Outstanding Undergraduate Professor (2016).

Asís enjoys the company of his lovely wife, María José, and often escapes to New York and San Francisco to visit his daughters, Victoria and Aitana.
