Information for Attendees
Clothes: The dress for the entire conference is very casual: jeans, sweatshirts, sandals, tennis shoes are appropriate. Expect to get sand in all footwear. Plan on layering your clothing. Jackets over sweatshirts for early morning and evening wear, but be ready to peel off, one layer at a time, for the warmer late morning and afternoon hours. The average daily high for nearby Muskegon is around 69 and the low 49; but it can be 10 degrees cooler at the Lake. Check a local forecast ahead of time.
Meals: Three full meals are served each day, cafeteria style. If you have special dietary needs (vegetarian, low fat, etc) please inform the Wakonse staff before the conference.
Accommodations: You will share a dorm/cabin room with a person from another institution. There will be two single beds and small dressers. You will be furnished with soap, a towel, wash cloth, sheets, a thin pillow and one wool blanket. There are two women's and two men's rest rooms in each dorm; each has two showers. Slippers/sandals are encouraged to keep sand off your feet after showering. There is often not an abundance of hot water, so you will want to stagger showers. A washer and dryer are available. We will provide detergent for your use.
Chautauqua: Please consider coming prepared to share your talents as musician, thespian, comic, or storyteller – or be ready and willing to join or organize an ensemble.
Other Activities: During breaks at the conference, you will have opportunities to enjoy hikes in the woods and through the dunes, canoe on Stony Lake, or attend a Sunday non-denominational service at the Chapel of the Dunes. There is also a grocery store in town.
Smoking is not allowed on the premises of Camp Miniwanca.
Telephones: Cell phones will probably not operate on the camp grounds, but do work closer to town. Pay phones are available at the camp. The emergency number for Camp Miniwanca is 231-861-2262 - it is operative until 5 pm Michigan time.

Family - there are no accommodations for children or spouses. If your spouse attends as a participant, you will be able to room together.
