Developing a Teaching Statement


Drafting a teaching statement is a necessary practice as you prepare for the academic job market.  Participants in this workshop will discuss the purposes for writing a statement and practical steps for getting started.  Participants will also have the opportunity to review sample statements and complete hands-on activities for initiating the writing process.

Learning Goals:

After successfully completing this workshop you will be able to:

  • list components that can be included in a teaching statement.
  • begin writing a teaching statement.

What to Bring:

It's not necessary, but if you have an existing statement (even a rough draft) feel free to bring it along.
