Fostering Student Reflection

Fostering Student Reflection

Critical thinking is an essential part of a liberal arts degree. How can the classroom environment be shaped to encourage deeper reflection on course topics? What tools and methods can professors use to facilitate this process? How can we encourage students to make connections between this course and others? Between their classroom and their personal lives? This session will address both the need for reflective practice and critical thinking in the classroom as well as some best practices for engaging and evaluating students in these types of approaches. Techniques covered may include free writing, reflective memos, semester-long journals, blogs, etc., and both formative and summative evaluations.
