The Research & Assessment for Learning (ReAL) Design Lab is the hub for research on learning at Notre Dame. It connects researchers, designers, educators, and scholar-practitioners interested in studying, designing, and building digital learning ecosystems that maximize learning.
We conduct basic and applied research in the learning sciences, learning analytics, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL). We believe in a human-centered, design thinking approach.
Our goal is to make learning more effective, efficient, and enjoyable. We focus on student-centered active learning in the traditional, blended, flipped, and fully online digital environments.
We balance Assessment FOR Learning (formative and student-centered) with Assessment OF Learning (summative and institutional-centered). We look beyond basic accountability and seek to measure improvement at the learner, course, program, and institutional levels.
